Newark Earthworks Lecture Series

Held at the Octagon Earthworks Visitor Center, this monthly lecture series brings together scholars and experts to explore the history, archaeology, and preservation of Ohio's ancient earthworks. Each program features a 45-minute talk followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session, giving you a chance to learn directly from specialists in fields ranging from archaeology to indigenous studies. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the lecture beginning at 7 p.m. This program is designed primarily for adults and older teens (high schoolers are welcome). Admission is $10 for general adults, $5 for students with ID, and free for Ohio History Connection members. Tickets are sold on-site only—no advance registration is needed. The August 20 session focuses on the preservation history of the Newark Earthworks, examining why Licking County has been more successful than other regions in protecting these Native American structures.
