New Exhibition—Trailblazers of Innovation: African American Inventors Who Changed America

Free exhibition celebrating African American inventors at Ohio History Connection.

Dive into a fascinating exhibit celebrating African American inventors whose creations transformed everyday life. This new permanent display highlights the stories of lesser-known innovators who developed groundbreaking solutions in fire safety, refrigeration, lighting, water management, and beyond. These inventions continue to impact how we live today, and the exhibit helps visitors understand the depth of innovation that shaped our world. The display was created through a collaboration between Wright State University Public History students and museum curators, making it engaging for families and learners of all ages. Admission is affordable—adults pay $6, seniors and military members $5, and children and teens up to age 17 are $3. Members of the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center and Ohio History Connection get in free. The exhibit is on display during regular museum hours, Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
