Fossil Tour at the Ohio Statehouse (Rescheduled)
Free fossil tours led by expert geologists at the Ohio Statehouse on National Fossil Day.
Your child can explore real fossils embedded in the very walls of Ohio's capitol building during this special free tour celebrating National Fossil Day. Two expert geologists—a curator from Ohio State University's geological museum and a paleontologist from the state survey—will guide visitors through the limestone architecture of the Statehouse, pointing out ancient shells and other fossilized remains preserved in the building's structure. It's a hands-on way to discover what Ohio looked like millions of years ago without leaving downtown Columbus.
Tours run twice that day, giving families flexibility to choose the time that works best. You'll meet in the Worthington Center on the ground floor to start your exploration. Because space is limited, you'll need to RSVP in advance—spots aren't guaranteed without registration. This tour works wonderfully for kids curious about geology, nature, and history, and it's a unique chance to learn from professionals in a setting most families have never thought to explore before.
