Building Community Through Collaborative Mural Making Workshop with Jaylin Stewart

Interactive workshop exploring mural design and community art-making with artist Jaylin Stewart.

Join artist Jaylin Stewart for an interactive afternoon exploring what makes a neighborhood feel like home. You and your family will take part in guided conversations about the places, people, and traditions that matter to you, then share your memories of meaningful community spaces. As a group, you'll imagine what you'd like your shared neighborhood to include, and Stewart will sketch these ideas as part of the collaborative design process. In the creative portion, you'll learn how artists use figures—through posture, movement, clothing, and color—to tell stories. Then you'll create your own mixed-media community members using painted paper, construction paper, acrylic paint, markers, and other materials. Your figures can represent yourself, family members, friends, neighbors, pets, or anyone you imagine. You'll wrap up by writing a short reflection on what community means to you. All artwork and reflections become part of a finished mural created during a second workshop. This free event welcomes participants of all ages and artistic abilities.
