3-Part Intro to Drawing Workshop: Composition, Measuring, and Negative Space

Three-part drawing workshop teaching composition, measuring, and perspective at the Carnegie Library.

This three-part drawing workshop introduces young artists to the fundamentals of observational still-life drawing. Over three consecutive Wednesday sessions, participants will explore three essential techniques: creating balanced and dynamic compositions, using simple measuring methods (like a pencil) to capture accurate proportions, and understanding how to work with both negative and positive shapes in their drawings. Each session builds on the previous one, giving kids time to practice and develop their skills gradually. The workshop is held at the Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center and is completely free to attend. Sessions run from 3:00 to 5:30 PM, making it easy to fit into an afternoon schedule. This is a great opportunity for kids interested in developing their drawing abilities in a structured, supportive environment. Whether your child is a complete beginner or has some experience with art, they'll learn practical techniques that apply to all kinds of drawing projects.
